Breaking Serenity | Enter the Paracosm

Updated: Apr 17

In Southern California, metal is taking hold of new generations of fans with flavorful instrumentation and dynamic vocals. Metalcore, alternative metal, and hardcore are some of the subgenres with the most listeners, and these fans seem more likely to dip into a diverse range of metal. Breaking Serenity offers a seductive blend of style that marries nu metal and hardcore.

Breaking Serenity caught the attention of New Music New Metal late in 2023 when researching promising bands breaking into the industry. Covering the band's progress while recording new releases, working through restructuring of members, and planning for Self-Inflicted Fest (happening Saturday, March 30, 2024) has kept the band busy. NMNM recently caught up with the Breaking Serenity family for an extended recap.

Breaking Serenity has evolved over the past decade, and Niko Garcia remains a founder and the last original member. The band has shed its skin and is embracing new blood, welcoming Antonio Gonzalez, Jackie Agramonte, Chris Anguiano, Mark Holguin, and Stevie Peralta as the latest members to forge a new path for the band.

But these changes aren't just about the lineup but also the sound. Breaking Serenity's music often portrays emotion and intensity through its instrumentation and meticulously crafted lyrics, helping the listener relate to the intent of each track. Tracks like "Hypocrite," featuring the vocals of Jackie Agramonte, convey the frustration and anger felt during failing relationships. While "Everlasting" beautifully blends vulnerability with the intensity of the vocals of Antonio Gonzalez and Chris Anguiano. Setting Breaking Serenity further apart is the lore of "Serenity," a graphic novel character created by Niko Garcia and brought to life with the stories within Breaking's lyrics, often carrying elements of redemption and resilience.

Serenity is a young woman coping with the chaos of childhood trauma that has led to her development of a dissociative disorder. Serenity's journey, born from the depths of trauma and manifested in a paracosm of her own making, mirrors the struggles we all face, offering solace and catharsis in the face of adversity. In Breaking Serenity's universe, the lines between art and reality blur, leaving us with a profound understanding of the human condition and a soundtrack to navigate its complexities.
